I spent my spring running a lot, and when kevin and I got to garnet dike. I too couldn't help but think... I am done kayaking for a while. It is an amazing adventure, but it is so much work. I would advise everyone to take 6, 7, even 8 days instead of a 5 day itinerary that we took. oh and spend a day in tehipite. It is definitely the highlight of a spring of my outdoors career. But damn it is the most amazing big, manky, terrifying, and tiring boat beating river I have ever run. I have never felt so close to death, and more aware of my limitations.

Thanks Darin for all your beta,

Jake Stoesz

To everyone reading this, IT IS HARD. Don't do it just cause you can run cherry. Do it because you love adventure, and being out there. Most rivers are more fun, this one is not fun...it is everything more serious.

I'm pretty burned out right now, but the SF San Joaquin should be coming and up by Nov 4th. If not by then, maybe december.

Just wondering, does anyone ever boat the MF Kings ABOVE where you put in, or is it just too small and steep?

I'd imagine it would be too small. The first few miles are actually a little mankey...then the volume picks up and it smooths out. I am sure it is possible though, and there is a decent chance it has been done...but more hiking at that point, ugh!
