Transitions.

Every season has its awkward moment. Tired of endless dark, cold, early mornings, glad-handing countless “public” and trying to make sure every transition is met (not get hurt), the transition from snow to water is looked forward to with hope and anticipation. To quote the common ski park idiom, everyone in our tight knit department is over it and ready to move on.

Thankfully several factors have helped speed up the final, notoriously slow weeks of the season. The Pit release gave us brief respite on one weekend. Similar in style to the Upper Klamath, Matt and I enjoyed fantastic scenery, good company and some fun downriver play.

This dam had a beautiful transition, minus the “Dragons Teeth” at the bottom.

As the Pit release tapered off, a week of warm weather filled dismally low Lake Siskiyou, kicking the Box Canyon season off to a mellow start with flows hovering in the low four foot range. Expectations soared as water reached the spillway and Ben arrived in town. Unfortunately several days of cold weather have held snowmelt at a standstill, lowering flows on the box and helping Ben stay focused on editing Hotel Charley 3.

Freedom, and regular updates, are only two weeks away!

Although I have been lazy about dragging all my camera equipment around this spring, when I have motivated it has been worthwhile.
