Love, love, love your Devil's Postpile blog and photos. Unfortunately I couldn't pull together a crew for a Friday put-on, though we may have run out of water anyhow? This is the only big CA trip that I have yet to knock out, always next year. I'm sure I'll be back to this blog to induce dreams until we (Devil's Postpile) meet.

Seems like lots of portages to be calling the best run in the sierras--just a thought
I think for class V+ multi-day paddlers, the challenge of big portages just adds to the appeal. It would really be a let down without any at all....gotta get out there and earn it!
This run is not a portage fest. It is on par with the other high sierras as far a difficulty. All the high sierra runs offer a unique challange and this one is no different. In my opinion it is just the same difficulty as mid kings, Royal, and Fantasy. Go get you some!
